Brown Sugar made with Splenda

We are trying to cut back with our sugar intake. Since I like to make Homemade Brown Sugar, I thought I would give it a try with Splenda.  While this works great, it needs to be made and used as needed, per recipe.

Brown Sugar Apple Pie

I suppose this could be called a cobbler since there isn't a bottom crust.  However, I've made an Apple Pecan Cinnamon Roll Cobbler that had a bottom and top crust, so that could be considered a pie.  Or perhaps..

Brown Sugar Streusel Coffee Cake

I have made this Brown Sugar Streusel Coffee Cake many times and even posted a picture on my facebook page.  Did I write the recipe down?  No!  Don't ask me why.  That tends to happen a lot.  I start something then have to stop....get to busy and totally forget to return and finish what I was doing to begin with.  You do know what I am talking about, don't you?

Homemade Brown Sugar

I was making muffins the other day and realized I was out of brown sugar.  How could that be?  Ah Ha!  The 6 batches of Pumpkin Muffins I made last week may be the reason!  ~smile~  Not wanting to go to the store, I searched the internet and found out it is very easy to make your own brown sugar!  Who knew?  Obviously, not me.  I often find myself looking for things I am out of and usually find them by a simple search.  Two ingredients and you are set.  I will never buy brown sugar again!

Sunday Brown Sugar Ham and Peaches..Memory of Sunday Lunch

Sunday's remind me of lunch as a kid.  Having a huge spread of just about everything on the table after church.  My parents...yes, Daddy helped too when Mama was busy, would get the side dishes ready in the morning.  The main part of the meal would be put in the oven to cook while we went to church..  My sister or I would set the table before we left.  The only thing to do would be to put ice in the glasses for the Drink of Choice of the South...Sweet Tea, so sweet a spoon could stand up in it,  and pop the bread in the oven.

When you opened the door after coming home from a wonderful morning of worship, the house was filled with the most delicious smells.  More intense than if you were home cooking the same meal.  Your stomach would begin to growl and you didn't know if you just wanted to kick off your shoes or change out of your church clothes first before you began eating.  The fastest way to get to table, was the way I chose.

After filling up with lunch, Daddy would lean back and have to unbutton to top of his pants because he was so full.  A sure sign that Daddy loved his meal.  Often times he wouldn't have room for the luscious dessert Mama had made.

We would go our separate ways after a great time shared as a family on a Beautiful Sunday Morning.  I would go to the pool in the backyard or movies with friends.  Daddy would sit in front of the tv, Mama would talk to friends and family, and my sister would go her way with friends.  Sometimes we would all go for a ride to nowhere and stop and get an ice cream on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Today I am cooking a Brown Sugar Ham and Peaches.  Yes, I am in a Peaches mode it seems.  ~smiles~   My husband bought some really huge, sweet peaches the other day and I need to use them up.  ~grins even bigger~

Sunday Brown Sugar Ham and Peaches

1 Smoked Ham
1 cup of Brown Sugar
1 can or jar of canned, Peaches,  I used a pint of home canned
3-4 Fresh Peaches

Preheat oven to 325 degrees

Trim excess fat from ham and save for seasoning. Pour the juice from peaches over ham, putting peaches in the pan.
Peel, and cut peaches into quarters, halves if on the smaller size.
Put brown sugar over ham and peaches.
Tent with foil.

Cook for 2 to 2 1/2 hours depending on size of ham.  You want to heat it completely through.
Take peaches out of juice as soon as you take it out of the oven.  Let ham rest for 15 minutes or more minutes.

Getting ready for oven.

Really Huge peaches my husband bought!
